Monochrome magic swept the spring-summer 2021 runways and we’re blaming The Queen’s Gambit.

While we may be homebound for the next while, the promise of gorgeous new spring style is certainly perking up our mood.

While you may be counting down the days until you can decorate yourself in bright hues, monochrome is one of the most striking spring trends and you will likely have what you need in your wardrobe already to absolutely nail it.

Monochrome has long been an unofficial uniform of fashion editors, models and street style enthusiasts alike because not only is it always-sleek looking, but it helps portray the illusion of a few shed pounds too.

Dramatic dresses were front and centre on the spring runways and during the digital presentations, from checkerboard-print minis at Dolce & Gabbana that harkened back to the 60s mod girl, to Gabriela Hearst’s striking floor-length two-toned leather dress or Ports 1961’s more beach-ready one.

Chanel showed that pastel-hued ditsy florals aren’t the only kind to lust over with this spring as the French fashion house sent a floaty halterneck dress of dreams down the runway.

You don’t need a one-and-done piece to unlock the magic of monochrome this season though.

Slouchy and sexy cold-shoulder shirts were seen at Coperni and while you may not want necessarily fancy pairing one with bike shorts, they will always look so sophisticated with black jeans.

Invest in a chic detachable collar to revitalise your favourite black knits or why not mix-and-match your loungewear for a snug statement?

If you want to treat yourself to some new bits though, here are some fabulous monochrome pieces that we have spotted on the high street.

Happy browsing.
