Snapchat’s Third-Party Guidelines Fell Short

Some Snap Kit platform developers have skirted guidelines meant to make the app safer for children.

A new report from TechCrunch released Tuesday found that some third-party apps that connect to users’ Snap accounts have not been updated according to new guidelines announced in March. The restrictions, which target anonymous messaging and friend-finding apps, are meant to increase child safety. However, the investigation found a number of apps either ignore the new regulations or falsely claim to be integrated with Snapchat.


The Santa Monica-based social media company announced the changes after facing two separate lawsuits related to teen suicide allegedly caused by the app. Over 1,500 developers integrate Snap features like the camera and Bitmojis. Snap originally claimed the update would not affect many apps.

Starbucks with drive-through, Jersey Mike’s coming to Whiting Commons shopping center

MANCHESTER – Starbucks and Jersey Mike’s are coming to the township’s Whiting section.

The township Planning Board recently approved a new retail building on Lacey Road, a part of the Stop & Shop-anchored Whiting Commons.

Starbucks, seen here on Jan. 14, 2022, opens its first standalone cafe in Toms River on Jan. 21, 2022.

The 8,951-square-foot building, which will be built on what is now vacant land, already has three tenants signed up: Starbucks, including a drive-thru lane and an outdoor seating area, Jersey Mike’s Subs and an AT&T store.

The center’s owner, Paramount Realty Services, is in talks with a national retail chain for the fourth space in the building.

A timetable for construction was not available.
